JM Dalgliesh aways delivers an exciting an entertaining tale. “Bury Your Past” is the second novel I have read in this series by J. M. Dalgliesh’s and I am already reading the third.The author brings back Deputy Chief Inspector Tamara Greave, Detective Inspector Tom Janssen, and young Eric Collet a Criminal Investigative Division (CID) Officer in England to investigate and solve the mystery of how a body buried in the sand and uncovered by a storm got there, who she is, and whether she was a murder victim or not.The only clues they started with was an unusual necklace around her neck, a skull fracture, and that she was wrapped in a blanket when buried.The investigation expands after an autopsy indicates that the victim has been dead for at least six years and the investigators search records of missing young women from that era. It turns out that there are four young women that fit the description of the unidentifiable corpse and several of them knew each other.Clues mount as the investigators connect some of them with a group of protesters that were sentenced to prison after being found guilty of arson at the Norfolk Reactive Sciences Company. Now released from prison, the investigators investigate the ex-cons and their families much to the chagrin of those hiding information or involved with criminal activity.I was a bit disappointed at the pace for the first 10 percent or so of the book and put it down several times before it peaked my interest again. Too be fair, being an American, I was having some trouble understanding the English slang, terms, sentence structure, and foreign dialect.When I gained interest again, I became totally engrossed and finished the remaining 90 percent of the this 273-page book in one sitting, putting it down at 3 in the morning.This chilling British detective story is well-developed both in storyline and characters and came to a satisfying conclusion leaving no loose ends.I recommend this novel to family, friends, and others who love a well written and developed murder mystery.Enjoy!
